MY TWO SATANGSArmy sex pics - if you don't know, keep mum
19/05/2012 : In a country such as Thailand where the military holds more power and carries more influence than deemed appropriate by supporters of Western-style democracies, should its commanders be schooled in the basics of common sense?

Payback time in Somalia
19/05/2012 : The hijacking of a Greek-owned oil tanker in the Arabian Sea last weekend did more than evoke the usual protestations by naval forces in the area that they could do nothing for fear of jeopardising the crew's safety. This time it triggered a helicopter-led nighttime assault on Somali pirate sanctuaries during which their supply centres came under fierce air attack and boats were destroyed. Although the raid did not secure the release of the 15-man crew of the MV Smyrni, the ship or its 135,000 tonnes of crude oil, it did set a welcome precedent.

America's `G-Zero' moment looms
18/05/2012 : The 2008 financial crisis marked the end of the global order as we knew it. In advance of the upcoming G-8 summit, it is impossible to overlook the fact that, for the first time in seven decades, the United States cannot drive the international agenda or provide global leadership on all of today's most pressing problems.

Travelling light
18/05/2012 : I have been mesmerised by those "pack light" type of people who travel the world armed with just a small suitcase. As a journalist, my luggage has always been larger than others, packed with things I think I may want _ not exactly need _ and some extras or spares.
Monks turn canvassers on alms round
18/05/2012 : It's been over eight months since Yingluck Shinawatra and her Pheu Thai Party won the general elections. Even so, the democratic process of selecting one's representatives has never stopped, as the people have been occasionally called back to the polls to select members for local administrations or MPs in by-elections.
Optimism key as Thailand dials in
18/05/2012 : Optimism is a powerful force and more importantly, it is infectious. I am an optimist. I believe now more than ever before that the Thai telecom industry is poised for phenomenal change for a very simple reason _ Thai consumers have access to smartphones and they want to use them!

EDITORIAL
Give southern folk more say
18/05/2012 : Improve education in the deep South. That was one of the main suggestions made by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation during its fact-finding visit to the restive South last week. It would be a big mistake for the government, however, if it insisted on interpreting the OIC's suggestion superficially as only being a call for an increase in the education budget for the Muslim-dominated region.

Lessons from Buddha
17/05/2012 : Buddhists in Ban Pong Namron, Wiang Pa Pao, Chiang Rai, are protesting against local Muslims' plans to build a mosque to serve the 200,000 Muslims who pass through the area yearly, as many Muslims have invested in rubber plantations in the North.
Democrats hope to discredit charter push
17/05/2012 : The road ahead for the charter amendment engineered by the Pheu Thai Party government won't be a smooth one as the opposition Democrats show no signs of throwing in the towel in their efforts to derail the campaign.
