Thailand girds for landmark case against free expression online

A landmark cyber-crime case in Thailand commenced on 31 May 2010, with the accused, website administrator Chiranuch Premchaiporn, officially denying the 10 counts of Computer Crime Act violation filed against her.

The Criminal Court set the trial's first hearing on 4 February 2011, even as the Court approved the prosecution's 14 witnesses and the defense's 13 witnesses in the pre-trial session.

Prachatai website editor due to appear before Bangkok criminal court next week

Reporters Without Borders voices its support for Chiranuch Premchaiporn, the editor of the Prachatai news website, whose trial before a criminal court in the Bangkok district of Rachada is due to begin on 31 May. Prosecution postpones decision on Prachatai Director’s case

On June 26, the Office of the Attorney-General again postponed a decision on whether to prosecute Chiranuch Premchaiporn who has been charged for allowing comments offensive to the monarchy to be posted on the Prachatai webboard.
